Welcome Letter for Parents/Guardians
Summer 2018
Dear Parents,
Welcome to a year filled with learning and growth for your child. Throughout this year you will see your child solve problems, think critically about what they read, and become more independent learners. In the first few weeks of school we will be working together to create a community where we all feel safe to learn. We will be sharing about ourselves and what makes us each unique. Let me share with you a little bit about what makes me unique.
I live in Lincoln, Rhode Island with my fiance, John Dailey and our 13 year old rescue cat named Babe. We are getting married on September 29th. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Connecticut. I also hold a Master’s degree in Special Education from Providence College. In my first four years of teaching, I worked for the RI Catholic Schools. In 2007 I was hired in Seekonk as a differentiation teacher at Aitken School. In 2008 I transferred to Martin School as a fourth grade teacher and remained there for five years. I have had such a wonderful time teaching fifth grade for the last five years, and look forward to working with your child in the fall.
Fifth grade is an exciting year of school in which a tremendous amount of growth and learning take place. I look forward to helping your child achieve success. I also look forward to open communication with you and will send more detailed letters concerning classroom rules and routines during the first weeks of school. I have included your child’s summer reading and writing assignments as well as a list of school supplies your child should bring on the first day of school.
I would like to know about your child in order to more fully understand him/her, so please complete In A Million Words or Less and send it into the school by the first day of school, or email it to me at [email protected] Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, now or throughout the year. I feel strongly that I can be most effective if we work as a team to further your child’s education.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Laura Koehler
