2018 Summer Reading
Welcome to fifth grade! Reading is the most fundamental activity we can do to become successful. Writing, spelling, grammar, social studies, science and even math skills are improved the more we read. To ensure that you are reading over the summer, I am assigning a reading project. You may choose any novel or nonfiction that you would like to read over the summer. It is YOUR CHOICE! By no means must you choose from any list. In order to show your understanding of what you have read, please complete the reading activity attached with this packet. Please write in complete sentences, paragraph form, with proper capitalization, punctuation and spelling. These will create a back-to-school bulletin board display, so I expect them to be colored neatly. Show your best effort and make a good first impression. You only get one chance to make a good first impression. Please email me if you have any questions at [email protected]. (I did include the new Massachusetts Book Award List of Books for 2019 for anyone interested in tackling the challenge early! They can be books you read for your summer project, but only if you CHOOSE to.) Happy Reading!
2018 Summer Writing
In addition, I have given you a composition notebook which will be your fifth grade Writer’s Notebook. I would like you to decorate the front and back cover of your notebook with pictures of people, places, items and small moments/memories that matter to you. These would include family, friends, places you spend time or have visited, vacations, holidays, nonfiction topics that interest you, current events that interest you, etc. These images will help you to feel ownership of your notebook as a special place where you ideas can be placed. Enjoy spending family time decorating your cover so that your writing can be a success! Don’t forget, that you only get one chance to make a good impression!! If you have any questions, please email me! [email protected]
Both assignments are due on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Be sure to complete your first homework assignments with effort and P.R.I.D.E.
